DBHS Wellness Center ~ Proud Winners of the
InspirED Changemaker Award!
The DBHS Wellness Program was recognized by Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence and Facebook with the noteworthy 2016 InspirED Changemaker Award on October 7th at Facebook’s Headquarters. The award included a $5,000 grant and an expense-free trip to Menlo Park, CA to participate in the 2016 Inspired Summit with approximately 200 attendees nationwide. DBHS was one of ten high schools nationally acknowledged for their pro-active efforts to improve school culture and inspiring positive change. Wellness consultants, Nikka Pisigan and Brandon Tang, presented the highlights of several DBHS Wellness projects at the Awards Ceremony hosted by Yale’s Director of Center of Emotional Intelligence, Professor Marc Brackett. They were also specially selected to share their experiences of the two day event in a video interview. Also in attendance from WVUSD, the District’s Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Matthew Witmer, DBHS Principal, Mr. Rueben Jones, Wellness Center Coordinator, Mrs. Sandy Davis, and Peer Counseling Advisor, Mr. Albert Lim. The Wellness Team was validated for their pioneering efforts to increase their students’ emotional intelligence in order to reduce stress and maintain a more balanced and holistic approach when striving for academic success. There are exciting, potential plans in the works for the DBHS Wellness Team to collaborate with Yale and Facebook on future projects.
